Lockdown Birthday
Well, I was already feeling guilty about not really having any problem with lockdown - I've been working from home for 18 years so nothing much has changed here and I'm very well suited to staying home even more than usual. At the moment I really appreciate still having work to do and family around me. But everyone has made my birthday very lovely today and I wanted to say thank-you. Photos attached of (deep breath) croissants in the garden for breakfast, a new birthday present portrait by Miranda, FaceTime cakes from my Mum & Dad and my nieces (I hope they have enjoyed their creations!), a real life cake from my next door neighbour Cathy who found out it was my birthday and whipped up a fabulous strawberry & cream confection for me, home made card from my mum (as always) and an excellent Weetabix box and magazine card from my Aunty Alison (& Dave, though I don't know if he was allowed to do any sticking on). I didn’t get a photo of my board game group’s games over video night but we had a whale of a time (and I am still not the saboteur!!), and finally Prosecco & halloumi burgers with my guys.
I'm very aware that whilst I'm here having fun and trying not to get too stressed (succeeding a reasonable amount of the time) there are among my friends and family many people who are having tough times. Those who are out putting themselves on the line with the NHS, in supermarkets, and looking after the children of other keyworkers, and there are probably more who I don't know about. Huge thanks to all of you.
And then there are those who are ill, and those who have already lost people to this virus, not being able to give a last hug or say goodbye. I can't imagine your pain and I hope I don't have to experience it. Thinking of you.
Stay safe, stay at home if you are fortunate enough to be able to do so. We will get through this however we have to. Have a virtual hug, and at some point when we’re able to I’ll exchange it for a real one. Love you all. Thank you.
