    Port Isaac

    28 August 2026

Photos from my trip to North Cornwall.

View from my bed in Port Issac, you can see the sea in the harbour and the hills over the rooftops High tide in the harbour with the sea lapping at the wheels of a VW Golf, I actually think it was pretty safe here but it was moved shortly after I took this photo. Another view of the sea from the bedroom window, there’s a woman and a dog swimming in the harbour and scaffolding on one of the bulidings in the foreground. A view down a footpath that feels like a tunnel with the trees making a canopy above and stone walls to each side A view of Port Isaac village from the headland above, you can see the beach in the harbour and many small white cottages on the hillside A view from the South West Coastal Path above Port Isaac looking north towards Tintagel. The grass is dry brown, the sea is bright blue, the sky is pale blue with a few clouds. A view of the harbour at Port Isaac. A few families are sitting on the beach and you can see the harbour walls coming in on each side of the natural cove between the cliffs. The beach at Port Isaac with a rusty chain in the foreground. You can almost see Darren’s head is in the water (the rest of him is below the surface!) View of cottages in Port Isaac, as drawn by Darren. Pencil and paper. One of the very narrow alleyways in Port Isaac, the corners of two white painted buildings come together leaving a small gap for people to just about slip through. Another view of the coast up towards Tintagel from the headland above Port Gaverne. Looking West along the coastline back past Port Isaac. A view of Port Gaverne in the sunshine. A few white buildings and a pub by a small harbour. An old sign preserved at a garage that has now been converted into workshops and a coffee shop. The sign details several different coach tour day trips to nearby towns and attractions such as Truro, Penzance, Lands End and St Ives. That one would have left at 9am and cost you 15 shillings and 3 pence for the return fare. No idea on the date but something pre-1971 because the UK hasn’t used shillings since then. I think this is a Brown Argus butterfly, pale brown with orange spots. The other side of the Brown Argus butterfly is darker brown with more structured orange patches around the edge of its wings. Yet another view looking east towards Tintagel along the Cornish coast. Steep cliffs and grass in the foreground. View looking across to the derelict Headlands Hotel at Port Gaverne. A large white building on a headland with boarded up windows. Inscription on a bench where I spent some time reading and saw the butterfly. It reads “Peace and quiet and open air, Wait for us, somewhere.” and is dedicated in loving memory of Chris and Maggie Moorhouse. “They loved this view”. Another empty white hotel at Port Isaac with large bay windows, the main feature of the photo is the alarmingly grey-orange sunset that looks quite apocalyptic to me though.
