upmystreet is an ace utility for finding out about an area and they’ve recently added a feature that lets you ‘find my nearest’ - your nearest pub, supermarket, garage, doctor, whatever. an excellent feature with one slight problem. i live on the north bank of a river mouth. this utility consistently tells me that my ‘nearest’, as the crow flies i guess, is on the south side of the river. i know it isn’t very far away from me in that crows eyes but it’d be a goodly trip to get there, twenty miles or more, even if i took the toll tunnel it’d take me a lot longer than somewhere on this side of the river!
