Festival of Quilts 2026

    Me and my mum took a trip to the Festival of Quilts. We didn’t have enough time in a day to view all the quilts but here are a few that caught my eye (more info in the alt text/hover).

    (I wasn’t organised enough to note down the makers names, I’ve been through the website to try and credit as many makers as possible.)

    a quilt you need 3d glasses to view! it’s a circle of sticks that jump out at you! a quilt with heavily quilted grey columns at the top as if they are trees in the fog and winding red and orange roots below the ground, this was made by lilli maurer and won the 10-13 year old quilters category. a scrappy quilt with tiny pieces of fabric in blue spirals, i think this was an old one a bookshelf quilt with lots of books, i suspect the titles are favourites of the maker, plus plants and a cat a quilt made of tiny multicoloured pieces, it’s red in the top left, black at the bottom, yellow and blue over to the top left, looks kinda like a pixellated cityscape to me a black pixellated space background with an appliqued owl in a space suit carrying a can of cosmicola made to look like the red coca-cola logo, this was made by esther tronchoni and peter hayward a set of six hangings made by a school group celebrating the feminist icons Lottie Dod, Jane Austen, Rosalind Franklin, Emmeline Pankhurst, Rosa Parks and Mary Seacole a grey quilt with pastel pink and blue flowers embroidered around the edges, a brightly coloured rainbow quilt with many patches from the girl guide movement attached in the style of a camp blanket a monochrome quilt with tens of penguins around the outside and more in the middle along with lots of triangles a heavily quilted rainbow circles, the quilting patterns remind me of spirograph lines, very technically brilliant! this was made by jenny haynes and longarmed by iva steiner a patchwork wall hanging made of scraps of blue fabric made into a 5 by 5 grid of squares, i suspect lots of old shirts, this was made by julie nyanyo i remember this quilt was entirely scraps of old silk, it’s framed in brown and i think it was 19th century a quilt with three window frames in perspective and strips of fabric making the landscape beyond them, this was made by claudia scheja a quilt showing fifteen different windows in different designs with different views, this was made by a group called okna a quilt with a red centre gradually fading to cream as it moves away from the centre. on top are tangled chains of words saying things like - democracy relies on mutual trust and a foundation of shared truth or it is under threat - stoking prejudice and division benefits a small and closed elite - and many other phrases a quilted pictographic map of the river wye, this was made by a group called trease l, sylvia l, fiona b, linda t, linda r
