today’s astronomy picture of the day shows the analemma of the sun - photographs of the sun at the same time of day throughout the year show the shifting position of the sun in the sky. the path traces out a figure of eight crossing itself at the spring and autumn equinoxes. i’ve always wanted to have a sundial at home and i now want to go and build a sun calendar too.
