java web start seems ...

7 September 2001

java web start seems pretty cool. you can download and run entire java applications from your browser and be assured that you’re running the latest version and not have to bother with any pesky installers.

i’ve just packaged up the latest development version of jericho so that it can be used with web start. because of the way that i skim read the security docs and signed the jar it says something along the lines of ‘it’s highly recommended that you don’t install this app’ when you run it. jericho will want to access the net, and it will let you read and write files. i’ll sort out a way to make the warning a bit less horrific later! in the meantime, i deny all responsibilities ;-)

you could just play with some demo toys from sun if you wanted…
