i’ve finally found the link again to one of my favourite articles:
Wholly new forms of encyclopedias will appear, ready made with a mesh of associative trails running through them, ready to be dropped into the memex and there amplified. from the stunning foresight vannevar bush’s 1945 article in the atlantic monthly.
i found the link at a little history of the world wide web. ten years ago, on may 17th 1991, cern released the first version of a web browser onto their internal network. it took two years after that for ncsa to release the first working version of mosaic for x. it rocked. it really really rocked. i remember it well. nothing technological i’ve seen since has come close to the first time i searched for references on the web. i wonder what the next thing will be that’ll have the same impact?
