💦The water engineer agreed with me that we already have a functioning water meter. Hopefully we can just get billed for what we use now!

⚡️An apology for “the distress you have faced” from the electric co is hilariously over the top. I think they sent the reply meant for “your power has been out for weeks” rather than “we’ve screwed up your metering”.

📦 A lost online order turned out not to have been shipped and is now on its way.

🛌 I feel caught up on sleep for a change. (If only every day involved a long bike ride & then gin maybe I’d always sleep well 😂). (hashtag retirement goals, maybe)

🎲 Fun games at the community gaming group.

😎I love how meeting people while playing board games ekes my social energy out so it lasts a lot longer than otherwise.

🚤 Biked out and checked on the boat. All is shipshape, just covered in cobwebs. Hoping to get it moving again soon.

🥤 I bought some reusable silicone straws and am very happy with the purchase. My homemade frappuccinos are now perfect.

🫑 Our excessive amount of padron peppers went very nicely with goat’s cheese on pizza.

🍓 It’s not strawberries and cream weather but I’m not letting that stop me 😋

📕 An hour curled up in the library with my book.

🕯️A table to myself in a candlelit cellar and a good pint of beer. Other half turned up later and also liked his pint.

And now for today’s #3GoodThings

🛞 I’ve fixed the puncture on my partner’s bike.

🫚I’ve installed a new inside-the-cupboard-door spice rack. It’s rattley and could do with slightly better installation to be honest but it’s doing its job.

♻️Two recent trips to the recycling centre have had 15-20 minute queues to get in. Today I drove right in, one other car there which was just leaving. All future trips will be on Thursday evening!

It’s been one of those busy weeks where I don’t feel like I’m actually getting anywhere so let’s have a catch up #3GoodThings

🤝Found a solution to a family situation that was concerning me that keeps everyone happy.

🗳️ Remembered to change our addresses on the electoral roll (general election announcement was a good reminder!)

👩🏻‍💻 Figured out how a tricky bit of code could be extended to do what I want without the horrid workaround I did last time.

🗃️My brain did not want to do interesting work so I gave it boring work and now boring work is all caught up for a while.

📞Also did one of those admin tasks you can annoyingly only do by phone.

🥔 There were homemade hash browns.

🍂 Unblocked a drain that was full of leaves.

🚲 A very pleasant bike ride, I’d worried it was going to be too hot.

🥤Tried making homemade frappuccinos and they came out really well.

❤️A forum post I made a few days ago got some lovely follow up comments.

🔎Located a scan of some paperwork from 2003 containing the id that meant I could log into one of my bank accounts again.

🪑People who vacated their bench just as we walked into the beer garden so we could sit down with our drinks.

📩It was really nice to get some feedback about a 21(!) year old blog post.

👍My business partner has been doing some excellent forum discussion moderation recently.

🌧️It eventually stopped raining and I got an evening walk in without getting wet through.

👩🏻‍💻 Work project is getting there, it feels like I’m moving very slowly but I am making progress.

🎶 Trying to get back into learning the piano. Being terrible at something is actually quite nice because you can easily see how practice leads to improvement.

🧐Realising that these observations are kind of related. It’s harder to see the movement in stuff I’m already pretty good at, which seems obvious but also seems backwards.

🪛Assembled the shed shelves. I think this is about the most organised I’ve ever been!

🫧Having a dishwasher again is great. I thought I was reasonably happy without one, I don’t really mind washing up, but the break between loading dirty plates and unloading clean ones actually makes all the difference.

🦊 A fox ran across the road in front of me as I cycled home.

13 May 2024

🌳Took Great Birnam Wood to High Dunsinane Hill. (Ok, I carted bits of an overgrown bush to the tip but I amused myself whilst lugging it about.)

🇸🇪 Survived Ikea: Part Two. Shelves for the shed & wondering why we don’t just build a whole house out of Kallax?

🍰 I snagged the last piece of Daim bar cake in the cafe.

12 May 2024

🎲Went along to a new board game group, great venue - big tables, natural light, air con - some people I already knew, more new people. Nice to play in the afternoon for a change.

⛈️Getting home just before the thunder started so I was safe and dry inside.

⚡️ Lightning map websites where you can see where it hit and watch the thunder roll in until you hear it are pretty amazing.

11 May 2024

🧊It’s hot & the swimming pool felt ice cold for the first minute which was gorgeous (I don’t really think it was any colder than usual).

🎹We moved the piano without too many Laurel & Hardy moments (it’s digital & just about fits in the car without disassembling, still feels like an achievement).

🧼The pastels/pigment that my partner got all over the carpet will come out eventually! (Plus we own the house so I’m not worrying about the deposit!)

10 May 2024

🤺We have a new garden fence & though it’s technically ours, our new neighbours paid for it as they desperately wanted it replacing.

🌅 Sitting in the garden at sunset with a glass of wine.

☕️ The city was jam packed but we found a new coffee shop , & then later, a new bar in suburbia.

9 May 2024

🌱All the herb seeds I sowed last week have now sprouted.

🤮I got a puncture in my bike tyre but was saved by the slime that sealed it up nicely so I could continue on my way.

✍️I bought some new pens and enjoyed trying them all out.

2 May 2024

🪪At the third attempt I got my partner and his photo id to the polling station (me & mine would have got there first time).

🔌I found the toothbrush plug adaptor hours after I went and bought a new one, in fact it was a two pack so now I have one to use and two to lose.

🪵Twiglets were on offer at the supermarket and it’s not even Christmas!

1 May 2024

👩🏻‍💻Worked out how a code thing worked that was making zero sense to me.

🇸🇪Survived a trip to Ikea; got most of what we went for and, of course, a few useful bits we didn’t know we needed until we saw them.

🪑I’ve already done 2/3 of my adult Lego sets, which I can’t really call adult Lego any more since that’s (happily!) become a real thing. This was just flat pack furniture assembly but it’s still satisfying.
