#3GoodThings

🫣 I’ve spent most of the day in a mad panic that tomorrow’s arrangements to move the boat by lorry were all going to fall to pieces but I’m now confident that it’s all going to be ok.

😎So now I’m looking forward to tomorrow’s adventures.

🍰 Ended up with a late lunch at a supermarket café and they’d stopped serving most things so I basically had to have coffee and walnut cake. Which was much nicer than you’d expect from a supermarket café.

🌧️ A house that keeps the rain out.

🔥 A boiler that keeps relighting itself eventually after several failed attempts.

🚲 A bike that was still there this morning even though I forgetfully left it unlocked on the drive all night.

🚤 Our boat is more or less ok despite some serious neglect lately.

🪫 There were, as suspected, flat batteries, but there were also helpful people with battery chargers to give a hand and there are now charging batteries.

💧 It was just fab to be out on the water again briefly, on a quiet afternoon, with the sun trying to shine and birds all around.

Photo bonus: the cygnets are almost grown up!

A Swan family with huge barely grey anymore cygnets hanging around the stern of a narrowboat looking for food. There are also a family of ducks with the same goal. They all got fed!

🏙️ It was foggy all night and half the day, but the clarity of the afternoon light was worth the wait.

✅ “I don’t want to do the thing. I don’t want to do the thing. I should really do the thing. ….oh, I thought of an easier way to do the thing!” I really should recognise that procrastination is a thinking technique as much as an avoidance one, at least sometimes.

🍰 Tan slice, a cake I’d never heard of, but it was good!

⏱️ Tricking myself into doing tasks by setting a 5 minute timer and knowing I can stop then, except I rarely do. (It works so well. It’s like even though I know exactly how they make it look like they saw the lady in half I still believe they do just that.)

✅I cleared 150+ things out of my to-do system that had either been done or didn’t need doing any more.

🏙️ Cities Skylines 2 game is preloaded ready for tomorrow’s launch!

🧠 My brain took a lazy day while my body had an active day, a pleasant change.

☀️ I’m glad I got up and out early even if it was cold, there were gorgeous clear blue skies.

😻My partner & the cat napping together in the armchair this afternoon were super cute.

🧒🏻Impromptu but lengthy FaceTime chat with the teen, who thankfully seems to be getting on ok after a few weeks at university.

💻 Got the work I should have done yesterday done by changing workplace to the library cafe. Coffee & toasties help.

🚲 The screw of my partner’s broken bike pedal came undone easily to replace it, the other won’t budge but it isn’t broken so he can manage with mis-matched pedals for now (or sort them himself!)

#3GoodThings at the end of a busy week

🌧️ I managed to find route in the car that wasn’t flooded (somewhat ridiculous that I was driving to the swimming pool though!)

🍪 I found Fox’s crunch cream biscuits in a salted caramel limited edition.

📑I feel very disorganised but I know my brain is subconsciously making plans that’ll be waiting for me when I’m ready for them.

🔑 Keys to the old house are now with the estate agent waiting for the sale to actually go through; huge mix of emotions for me, but in the end I’m glad to hand it off.

🏡 An advantage of what’s feeling like a very drawn out move is that the new house already feels like home.

📦 We’ve had several deliveries that have arrived in ludicrously oversized boxes and the cat is very happy about this!

#3GoodThings on the last night I’m spending in the house that has been the longest lasting of my life

🥰 Things haven’t always gone to plan but I have many, many good memories of this place.

🧼 It’s been a stressful last few months and I’m glad to have, very nearly, reached the end of the clearing out and cleaning up here.

🚚 Though I was rather dreading it, I’m enjoying moving on and looking forward to new adventures and making new memories elsewhere.

#3GoodThings on a day where I feel the whole day got wasted on admin tasks

✉️ I changed my address in about 376 different systems (well, it felt like that many). And I kept a list of them for next time I need to do it.

🤙 There was a lot of time on hold on the phone, and way too many phone calls, but there were some really friendly people on customer support lines.

💰 Invoices that were overdue have also been sent out so we might actually get paid sometime.

🌊 The bike path I took led me across salt marshes, a very literal breath of fresh air, I loved it.

🍛 Friday night’s Indian takeaway was much better when reheated for Sunday’s tea.

⏳I’ve wasted most of the day - post bike ride - doing pretty much nothing, and I’m trying not to feel guilty about it because I guess that’s what I needed.

🍂 Today was the first time this year it’d felt properly autumnal to me, lovely light through the trees this afternoon, leaves starting to turn.

🚙 Penultimate car load of stuff removed from the old house. One more trip!

👵We took coffees round to MIL’s house, which was actually a nice break, and she seemed very well.

🏡 We’ve agreed a completion date for the sale of our old house. It feels like this house move has been going on for about a hundred years now.

🥙 We had a lunch out, a rather nice Indian curry/salad kind of thing I’ve forgotten the name of.

🐘I taught myself to play Ark Nova on Board Game Arena, which I’ve been meaning to do for ages.

#3GoodThings afternoon edition as I keep falling asleep (that’s a good thing though!)

🚤 Got all the pieces in place to move our boat closer to home (by road rather than by water which isn’t doable at the moment) in a couple of weeks time.

🎁 Remembered to order my partner some birthday presents so I don’t have a last minute panic next week.

📧 Replied to some email it was bugging me I hadn’t replied to, it wasn’t complicated, I don’t know why I was procrastinating!

🥱 I like the kind of exhaustion you get after a long bike ride, makes a big change from exhausted from staring at a screen all day.

🐦 Watching a flock of birds migrating south, well I presume that was what they were up to.

☑️I got caught up with a review task I find really useful but keep skipping.

#3GoodThings about yesterday which I’m just getting round to realising

🚫I cancelled a fun thing to have more time & money for a diff fun thing. I’ve been spreading myself very thinly lately and there’s no point doing that with the fun stuff too.

📚 We hung out in the library bar in the evening; eating , drinking 🍷 🍻 and reading 😃

😌It’s calm in the house now the guests have left. Love them dearly but it’s nice to be back to just two of us (cat says: Oy, three!)

🧩 Finished a fun jigsaw, with my mum, in two evenings. Photos when there’s some daylight.

🏞️The rain stopped for long enough for us to take a decent walk.

🐈 The cat actually played with her new cat toy.

Yesterday’s #3GoodThings

👖The washing that got soaked through on Monday, when the weather forecast I had was completely wrong, got dried & more too.

👩🏻‍💻Work is easing off and everything is feeling a bit less urgent.

🌛I got the Moon card game to the table & the other players seemed to enjoy it too.

🏡 A warm dry house at the end of a wet bike ride.

🧦 I’ve got new fluffy slipper socks, I really struggled to find anywhere to buy nice new ones.

🥪 My partner made me a really nice cheesy/olivey/sun dried tomatoey focaccia panini.

🚙 Being able to choose to take the car when it’s raining.

📖 The time to sit and finish reading my book.

😻The cat who assists relaxation by pinning me down and not letting me move.
