✅ I put 25 items on a todo list this morning, I’ve ticked 20 of them off. 3 will get done in the morning, 2 have been discarded as aspirational/unnecessary. I’m happy with that.

👨‍👩‍👧 My parents will be here tomorrow and I’m just about ready for them. (Not that they’d care if I wasn’t, but it’s nice to be prepared.)

👩🏻‍💻I love learning new stuff; today I’ve been working through the tutorial for Astro web site generation, for no good reason but it’s fun and new to me.

😻There’s a cat asleep on my feet.

🪐On my second solo play of the Terraforming Mars: Ares Expedition card game, I won! It was on super easy mode which gives you lots of help. Next time I’ll try normal.

🏊‍♀️There were only five people in the entire swimming pool which was lovely.

🎲I won the Magic rematch with the teen. Decider tomorrow? Hope so.

🏡A warm, dry house while it’s been chucking it down outside.

👩🏻‍💻Sat down at my computer and did a few things but didn’t do any work at all and didn’t feel guilty.

🎄The most complicated parts of Christmas are done for another year and I will enjoy myself more from now on.

🎲Playing Magic: The Gathering for the first time in years and the teen beating me as is to be expected. Rematch tomorrow.

🍷Quiet evening with just us, which is pretty much the first point again from a different angle but it is worth retelling myself.

🤫It has been, more or less, a normal Friday but the normal places have been quieter. Calm is good.

🚰A plumbing thing got fixed before it turned into a problem.

📚I got absorbed in a book, not a great one, but a perfectly passable entertaining one and sometimes that’s what you need.

🎁The vast majority of the present wrapping is done. And it’s only the 22nd? I think I may have been possessed by aliens, but they are organised aliens.

📅Thinking about plans for next year. Making sure those organised aliens stick around.

🆙My mastodon instance got upgraded, which is nice!

✨The Christmas lights & decorations are up!

⭐️The teen now mostly approves of the not-tree. We added a star to the top and apparently that makes it fine now. 🤷🏻‍♀️

📖Thinking about all the silly stories that go with various decorations made me happy.

🛒 Christmas supermarket shop is done. More or less. Apart from the stuff we forgot obviously.

🎁 A family gift giving situation got resolved, which means I still need to buy some gifts, but at least I know where I am now.

🚲 It’s so much warmer than it was last week. Not anything you could actually describe as warm of course but not worrying that my extremities are going to freeze off during a short bike ride.

🗂️It’s been a tedious admin kind of a day but that means many tedious admin things are done and don’t need to be done again for a while.

🧑‍🍳 At some point in the last few years my partner took over being our family’s everyday cook and I really appreciate not being the only one who thinks about meal planning.

🧩The freedom to laze about and jigsaw in daylight for a bit in the morning. Daylight is kind of scarce and it’s nice to be able to utilise it how I want.

⚠️Today I learnt that gas (as in fuel) pipes have left hand threads to prevent you joining them up with other pipes like air or water pipes and causing chaos. This seems like a very good thing, I’m surprised I’d never learnt it before.

🌧️Windscreen wipers are great.

⏳Today has been a long day, in the good sense. So many things have happened that this morning seems an age ago.

🚤My boat is all in one piece with no major problems from the cold snap.

🔥We’ve just about got it warm enough even though nothing ever works right first time.

🇮🇹The local pizza takeaway is as good as I’ve ever had outside Italy.

☕️Coffee with the in-laws was perfectly fine.

🛍️Got alerts that two Christmas gift orders are ready to collect from local shops.

📝Had an overwhelming todo list in my head this morning but it didn’t seem nearly as bad when I wrote it down. Plus I’ve actually done most of it!

💊Paracetamol.

🎁My Christmas gift shopping is getting there… slowly. Ages away yet right?

🌲Realised I have a “can’t see the forest for the trees” problem with a work project. Taking a few days away from it so I can come back with fresh eyes.

🥶De-icing the car is actually quite fun when you are fortunate enough to not have to do it very often.

🤝The meeting I went to was actually worth the trip.

🕸️Spent half the day redesigning a website before deciding I preferred it how it started. I would have been better off producing content but now I feel ready to do that with what’s already there.

It has been a frustrating sort of a day but

💸I can afford to heat the house.

😎A situation got resolved which wasn’t really my problem but I had ended up as a go-between and it was stressing me out.

🔁Tomorrow’s a new day and I can try and make it better than today.

🌨️It only flurried enough to make the rooftops frosty and pretty and not enough to cover the roads up.

🚲Which meant riding my bike was fine, and everything apart from my fingertips stayed more or less warm enough while doing so.

🧶The blanket I’m knitting is now keeping my lap warm as I’m knitting.

🎄My Christmas cake is baked (possibly slightly too much but it’ll do.)

🌨️The word “flurry” is strangely hilarious. And there were not any flurries that I noticed despite the forecast.

🐈Caturday is lovely and relaxing - I’ve enjoyed watching them all scroll by.

🛍️I felt more like having a meltdown to start with but ended up with my Christmas shopping started.

👧🏾Nice encounter with a very effervescent lady in a shop. My initial instinct was to run and hide but I decided to talk back instead and she made me feel very happy.

🏡I’m home with 🍷wine, 🧩jigsaw puzzle and 🐱cat and all feels well with the world.

☀️Managed to get out for a walk in daylight. Couldn’t see a thing because the sun was horizontal but yay for vitamin D.

❄️The mud was all crunchy and frozen underfoot.

🎄Started making the Christmas cake, which is supposed to be made like 3 months ahead or something but better late than no cake. Dried fruit is now soaking in a mix of brandy and cognac as that was the dregs my drinks cupboard had going.

🪡 Good to finish my sashiko embroidery sampler on the schedule that I planned.

🎄 Today’s procrastination involved making my Christmas cards. If I didn’t procrastinate then I don’t think I’d ever get anything done. 🤔

🌕I don’t think it was quite a full moon, but it was very nice seeing it hanging so brightly in the clear sky this evening.

1️⃣The OneTab browser extension.

  • Me: I need all these tabs!

  • OneTab: I’ll save them all for you (but you’ll never want them again.)

  • Me: It is very important to save them!

  • Narrator: She never wanted the tabs again.

💦Both my regular swimming pools have survived the winter energy saving cuts that have shut a couple of other local pools. For now, at least.

😘The teen came home in a happy mood.

😡Something made me realise how much angrier I used to get. It’s not that things don’t annoy me anymore, but I deal with it way better now.

🕯️The town is nicely full of twinkly Christmas lights which are slowly convincing me to be a bit less ‘bah humbug’.

📱Had an iOS shortcut refusing to work because of a weird bug that I couldn’t work out but I found a workaround just after I’d given up on it.

🚗Supervised the teen learner driver for the first time (after several months of lessons) and all was fine.

📍Google Street View is basically nostalgia time travel magic.

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿And the old maps collection at the National Library of Scotland website is even further back nostalgia magic (even if you’re nostalging in England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿).

⏸️Nothing was really urgent so I did very little.

💭Long walk at twilight, enjoyed the quiet. I usually listen to podcasts or music but today it was just me & my rambling thoughts.

🧥Found my duffle coat out yesterday. I made it myself, it’s fab, snuggly and very “when I am old I will wear purple”.

☕️Independent coffee shop where my loyalty card was full so I got a free latte.

📉One of the things that was stressing me yesterday got partially resolved so it’s a lot less stressful.

📱I contacted someone that I had been putting off calling for weeks and thought it was going to be really awkward but it was fine.

📉I would have expected work to be stressful today and it hasn’t been. Thanking my past self (and others) for preparing things well.

📈There were other stressful things but I am coping ok with them and trying to support others.

🎄The teen forgot it was December (see previous thing) and was surprised (and happy) to see the advent calendar had been filled and hung up.
