I enjoyed this book, another one found on the Booker Longlist, though I’m not surprised that it hasn’t made the shortlist. A bit of a gimmicky book, Harold sets out to post a letter in Devon and ends up trying to walk all the way to Berwick-on-Tweed at the far end of England, but an interesting look at a family from a different angle. The story has stuck with me longer than the one from Swimming Home anyway. And I’d certainly look the author up again, I think this is her first novel but she writes Afternoon Plays for Radio 4 so it’s not a surprise she can string an interesting story together that holds your interest.
