The Pact

I was surprised to find that it’s been five years since I read Plain Truth which I read for a mailing list bookgroup. I couldn’t remember that book very well and am surprised by my own comments on it. The wonders of record keeping!
I found this to be a real page turner. The Pact in question is a suicide pact in which perfect teenage daughter Emily ends up dead and her boyfriend ends up injured, alive and accused of her murder. I enjoyed the first part of the book which interwove the main characters pasts with the aftermath of Emily’s death, and I couldn’t put the book down when we got to the trial. But in the end I was a bit disappointed. I’d rather have had more of the characters and less of the suspense.
Pretty good, and I will probably read more by the same author, but it seemed to be lacking something in the end.
