My favourite of the three books I’ve read from this year’s Booker lists. None of the others appeal to me very much at the moment so I will probably stop here. This one seemed a bit slow and plotless in places, but it left me with an Anita Brooknerish feeling that a lot more had happened than was explicitly told. An author I will look for again.
