Slack Tide

I really enjoyed Silver and Salt and am surprised it’s taken me five years to pick up another of Elanor Dymott’s books. This was equally well written and tells the story of a short love affair between Elizabeth and Robert, you know it’s over at the beginning so I’m not spoiling anything! I found it very insightful as to how and why people carry on with relationships even though it’s obvious to everyone that they aren’t going anywhere and the participants want different things. So it’s the falling in love part of a romance tangled up with the split up story all at the same time. You find out a lot about both parties but in the end I still wanted to know more about both characters. It was a book that could easily have been extended to give multiple viewpoints but I think perhaps it was better as it was, just the one point of view. A good read.
