Kate asked me what I didn’t like about the book and I replied and then realised that my reply would do very well as a review of my reading of this book. So here it is repeated for posterity to save me thinking about it any more!

Oh mostly I think it suffered from being my out-and-about book that I keep for half-hours waiting here and there. I never really got into the story or cared much about the main character. Though what usually happens with books is that in one of the odd half-hours I get caught up in something and bring the book back into the house to keep going with it. That just never happened with this so it took me weeks to get through it whilst caring less-and-less about what happened.
Also the fact that it’s very well regarded, widely read and liked makes me want to register my indifference more strongly than I might do with a less well known book! And I previously read & enjoyed A Thousand Splendid Suns by the same author so I expected to like this more than I did.
I can see there’s a good book in there that other people have enjoyed but I didn’t really get it. I guess my 2/5 stars are probably more about me than the book!
