Darren read a ton of Hiaasen books last year, giggling his socks off over them, and I thought I’d find out what all the amusement was about. I’m still not quite sure as the humour didn’t really work on me. I can see what’s supposed to be funny but I just end up feeling sad about the situations the characters are in rather than amused by their predicaments. If anything the characters were too convincingly drawn.

I’m wondering why the books are filed under mystery too as they definitely aren’t mysteries and don’t really come under the catch-all of ‘crime fiction’ either.

Not bad but I think I’ll give Hiaasen a miss in future.
