Another installment in the Ben Kitto series set on the Scilly Isles. As ever the atmosphere is great and the plotting is pretty decent. Obviously you have to ignore that the amount of murders on the Scillies now far outnumbers the size of the police force, but that’s what we came for after all, we can do that. Someone kills off one of the lifeboat crew and it doesn’t look like they are going to stop there.

I had given up on reading ebooks from the library since I wasn’t getting on with the BorrowBox app they use and didn’t find it nearly as nice as Libby which my old library used. After a break I tried again and it’s fine, not great, but perfectly usable given the free books. One weird thing was that the ebook copy had an entire chapter where one of the characters changed their name, just something missed in a search and replace I guess, it was obvious who the character was supposed to me but it seemed odd that the text had made it out to readers like that, and it takes you out of the story a bit when you find that kind of thing, like a peek behind the fourth wall.

This is one of those series that I’ll probably keep reading for as long as they keep coming, the characters keep developing nicely - which is something that makes me not want to give too many details here in case anyone reading hasn’t got as far in the series as me - but it’s not turned into a soap opera where you’re tuning in for the developments in the lives of the regular characters. The mystery plot stays central to the books. I enjoyed it a lot.
