The third volume of the “Last Hundred Years” trilogy which began in 1920. I totally couldn’t see how she was going to finish this one without it being really tame or really stupid or just incomplete. But, oh God I love Jane Smiley, there is the most fabulous payoff to wading through three volumes of entertaining but sometimes not that captivating family saga style drama. Highly recommended.
