This one just didn’t do it for me. I’ve given up on this series once before when I found one of the stories tedious, but then I came back later and got super into it again, so I’m not saying I’m going to give up again, but I won’t be buying the next one in hardback. Not least because this one was riddled with typographical errors - mostly paragraphs starting at a random point in the sentence, but also what I’m guessing was an overzealous -ize -> -ise conversion that left this UK edition with numerous references to “fields of maise” - I did wonder if it was a historical spelling but couldn’t find any mention that it’s ever been anything but “maize” in the UK when I looked it up. Just too many things distracting me from a not particularly strong mystery, it just never stopped feeling like I was reading a book rather than living with the characters.
