i loved nicci french’s first book the memory game and found the next two a little disappointing. i think this was mainly because i expected to have my head messed with in a way that i didn’t expect to happen, or at least that i didn’t foresee, in the first book i read. so in a way i’m expecting to be disappointed in this book.
and i was. the plot was definitely the weakest yet. there were good bits in this book, and for about thirty pages near the end it really got going and had the makings of a great suspense story. but the pace wasn’t there and the plot could’ve been a lot more engaging. and there was a device i really didn’t like in the first person narratives. i’m disappointed because i know she can write better and more originally that this.
