tumbling blocks cushion being made

this was my 'free gift' for joining rowan international. i started making this cushion in august 2003 when it arrived and then i put it away to concentrate on something else and now it's march 2004 and i'm still on row 34 of 112..... my mum just joined rowan too and she picked the other colourway which has inspired me to pull mine out of the knitting basket and finish it off.

i was surprised to find that my mum's bright cushion uses two strands of the same colours together all the way through. my neutral toned cushion mixes different colours of wool together. there are three base colours - a cream, a beige and a grey - which are sometimes used doubled and three stronger colours - a deep red, a green and an orange - which are only used in combination with one of the base colours. i lied. i'm sure it was like that when i looked at the pattern! now it's asking me to mix green and burgundy and do things with two strands of orange.

i completed the cushion in may 2004 and the finished result is lovely. well at least i have 3 sides of the cushion sewn together and no cushion pad as of yet. (i started sewing the backing on by hand but decided that would only do as over the top tacking and sewed it together on the machine afterwards, surprisingly i managed to do this without shedding tears over ripped wool.)
