opal socks
pretty purple socks

i'm making myself a pretty pair of purpley socks using this fabbo german sock wool opal cream 1022 bought from the web of wool.

pretty purple socks - close up!

i also got some lovely 5 inch long birch double pointed sock needles. my previous experience of double pointed needles has not been good but having discovered that i like bamboo needles for regular knitting a lot better than plastic or metal ones i wanted to see what some wooden double pointed needles were like. and they're ace. i could actually get to like this fiddly stuff now i have the right tools.

i'm using wendy's generic toe up sock pattern. knitting socks in that direction somehow seemed more sensible to me, though since i've been knitting this pair of socks i've looked at lots of other patterns and think i can see the sense in starting from the cuff now, might try it that way next time.

these socks took me a fortnight to knit in february 2004 but i didn't knit a stitch on anything else while i was making them and i did go a bit nutso when i got the wool 'must knit socks every waking moment....'!

here's the finished item. it's really hard to take pics of your own feet!
