Raven Black by Ann Cleeves

In the beginning I thought this was a bit slow and expected it to stay very cosyish. In the end I loved it and can’t wait to read the second volume! It’s not at all cosy and rather dark in many ways. I think it’s a “quartet” rather than a “series” so I’m hoping that the story arcs begun in this first book are going to go somewhere good.

The Ghostly Term at Trebizon (Trebizon, #11) by Anne Digby

Cover of

This one I have definitely read before, although it wasn’t published until I was 18, I must have picked it up somewhere and at least skim-read it at some point. I couldn’t remember the plot clearly and I think it’s a bit weak compared to some of the others. Enjoyable to catch up on all the same.

Isa and May by Margaret Forster

Cover of

I really like Margaret Forster’s books and am always a bit scared to start them in case they let me down. In the beginning I thought this one was a bit off the mark and the central character rather wishy-washy – but in the end I really liked it and thought Forster had a lot to say about relationships between families.
